Joan Miller has a diverse work experience. Joan currently works at Joby Aviation as an Instructional Designer. Prior to that, they held the same position at Silver Creek High School in 2020 and 2018. From 2016 to 2018, they worked as a Substitute Teacher and STEM Educator, gaining insights into K-12 education and assisting with STEM education in Sonoma County Schools. Before that, they were a Producer/Head of Development at Spine Films, specializing in science and nature documentaries. Joan also worked at KQED as a Producer/Writer for the mobile app series "Let's Get Lost" and as a Producer/Associate Producer for the science and environment series "QUEST". Additionally, they worked as an Associate Producer for "Download: The True History of the Internet" at Discovery Communications and as an Assistant Production Coordinator for "House" at NBCUniversal, Inc. and "The Commuters" pilot at CBS Television Studios. Throughout their career, they have received multiple awards and has been recognized for their contributions.

Joan Miller obtained a Bachelor of Science with honors in Psychobiology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Joan also pursued studies in French, Biology, and Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, they completed an Intensive French Language, Culture, and Arts Program at the University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Later on, Joan Miller pursued a Master of Science degree in Instructional Science and Technology from California State University, Monterey Bay. Joan completed this degree between 2018 and 2020.

Apart from their formal education, Joan Miller obtained a certification as an Advanced SCUBA Diver from NAUI Worldwide in February 1991.
