Karl Garcia has extensive experience in network engineering. Karl started their career at Airespace in 2001 as a QA Lead Engineer, where they were responsible for the QA release effort and led the QA effort for new products. Karl then joined Cisco Systems in 2005 as a Senior Development Test Engineer, where they drove testing and led software releases of integrated Airespace products.
In 2006, Karl joined Google as a WiFi Evangelist and played a crucial role in designing, managing, and troubleshooting GoogleWiFi, a city-wide network in Mountain View. Karl also developed software and policies to ensure fair network access for all users. Karl stayed with Google for 12 years, managing GoogleWiFi and speaking at conferences.
In 2018, Karl was hired by ERG, Inc. to work in Google's X division. There, they provided network testing and development support to the Free Space Optics Communications group. Karl researched and implemented high-bandwidth test tools and automated SBC cluster farms.
Currently, Karl works at Joby Aviation as a Network Engineer. Karl joined the small startup in 2019 and is focused on developing an electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft. Their responsibilities include designing systems and methods to verify network integrity and robustness for onboard and air-to-ground communications.
