Powertrain Maufacturing Engineering Intern at Joby Aviation

Luke Garrett has had two work experiences in chronological order.

From June 2021 to June 2022, they worked at Deep Ocean Engineering, Inc. as a Mechatronics Designer/Technician. In this role, Luke played a fundamental part in designing, manufacturing, and assembling remote-operated vehicles (ROVs) that function underwater at depths ranging from 300 to 1000 meters. These ROVs were used for various purposes such as bathymetry, inspecting nuclear power plants, hydroelectric dams, underwater oil pipelines, and naval ships.

Starting from June 2022, Luke joined Joby Aviation as a Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering Intern. Luke'sresponsibilities involve designing prototype and production fixtures used in the manufacturing process to enhance ergonomics and repeatability. Additionally, they provide support for ongoing production builds, aids in product build, and collaborates with cross-functional team members. Luke also troubleshoots and optimizes existing equipment for continuous process improvement and lean manufacturing principles.

Luke Garrett began their education at Monterey Peninsula College in 2018, where they pursued an Associate of Science degree in Engineering and another Associate of Science degree in Physics. Luke completed both degrees in 2020. In the same year, Luke enrolled at San Jose State University to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Machatronics. Luke is expected to complete their studies at San Jose State University in 2023.
