Robert Rowland started their career in 2015 as a Conveyance Engineering Co-op at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, where they assisted in the development and implementation of material handling solutions. In 2016, they worked as a Weld Engineering Co-op at BWX Technologies, Inc., where they contributed to the design of next-generation waste container systems.
In 2017, Rowland had two internships: one as a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern at Tesla, where they worked on the mechanical design of Model S and Model X components, and another as an Engineering Research Assistant at Mechatronics Vehicle Systems Lab, where they contributed to the design of a lithium-ion battery pack and developed control logic for an electric vehicle platform.
From 2016 to 2018, Rowland was the Team Captain and Powertrain Lead of the University of Waterloo Formula SAE Electric racing team, where they worked on electric race cars and took on project management responsibilities.
In 2018, they interned at Apple as a Metal Tooling Engineering Intern, providing design for manufacturability support and developing manufacturing processes.
In 2019, Rowland co-founded Trajekt Sports Inc., a robotics technology startup, where they led hardware development, manufacturing, and testing.
Robert then worked at Apple as a Manufacturing Design Engineer from 2020 to 2021, contributing to the design and manufacturing processes of Apple products.
In 2022, Rowland volunteered as an Engineer for the Sonic Sphere project at Sonic Sphere Inc., where they worked on building a large sphere.
Currently, Rowland is working at Joby Aviation as a Mechanical Engineer, with a previous role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, contributing to the development of aviation technology.
Robert Rowland's education history includes the following:
- Robert obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science - BASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where they attended until 2019.
- In 2017, Robert participated in a seminar on Applied Vehicle Dynamics at Optimum G.
- In 2015, Robert completed a program in GTAW (TIG) Welding at Conestoga College.
- In 2014, Robert earned an Ontario Secondary School Diploma from Villanova College.
