James Nolen

James joined the K3 Legal team in September 2016 and comes from a specialist corporate and commercial law firm, where he spent three of his seven years as a partner. Prior to that, James worked for one of New Zealand’s large firms as a specialist litigator.

Over his eighteen years’ legal experience, he has handled a wide range of complex commercial litigation and insolvency matters. James is described in The Legal 500 as “hard working and maintains strong client relationships” and is “recommended”. Chambers & Partners lists James as a ‘Ranked Lawyer’ for Restructuring & Insolvency and describes him as “widely regarded by market sources as an up-and-coming individual in the insolvency sphere”. Asia Law Profiles said “Rising star” James Nolen is quickly making an impression with his handling of a wide range of commercial litigation and insolvency matters.

James provides technically excellent advice that is practical and commercial. With degrees in law and management studies, majoring in accounting, James quickly grasps the financial aspects of commercial disputes.

He acts for receivers, liquidators and commercial creditors on both contentious and non-contentious insolvency and enforcement issues. His broader commercial litigation experience has encompassed shareholders disputes, urgent injunctive relief, breach of director duties, construction matters, and intellectual property disputes. James appears regularly in the High Court and has appeared in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

James is a member of INSOL New Zealand, New Zealand Credit & Finance Institute (NZCFI) and a number of other professional bodies.
