Byungseok Roh

Research Team Lead, Research Scientist at Kakao Brain

Byungseok Roh began their work experience as a Researcher at ETRI in 2007 and held the position until April 2015. During this time, they worked on the Smart Contents Technovation Project.

In April 2015, they joined Intel Corporation as a Deep Learning R&D Engineer. In this role, they served as a Technical Leader, leading a work group focused on object detection, head detection, action recognition, and person attribute classification. Byungseok also worked on machine learning and constructing a lightweight DNN. Byungseok'steam achieved impressive results, placing 2nd in the PASCAL VOC 2012 object detection competition with a network that used only 10% of the computation cost compared to the 1st place network, ResNet.

In August 2020, Byungseok moved on to their current position as the Research Studio Director at kakaobrain.

Byungseok Roh completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at Korea University from 2001 to 2005. Byungseok then pursued further education and obtained their Master of Science degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Computer Graphics from Korea University from 2005 to 2007.
