Valerie Gieler, LEED AP, has a diverse work experience in the fields of communications, marketing, and fundraising. Valerie currently works as the Editorial/Publications Director for KU Endowment, a nonprofit fundraising foundation for the University of Kansas and its medical centers. In this role, Valerie manages the production of the award-winning KU Giving magazine and contributes to fundraising efforts through concept development and editing. Before that, they were the Publications Manager for KU Endowment and played a key role in the successful Far Above comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Prior to their time at KU Endowment, Valerie worked at DLR Group as a Senior Associate, Marketing & Communications. Valerie gained promotions and additional responsibilities at this architecture, engineering, and design firm. Valerie also worked as a Marketing Coordinator and Proposal Manager for Shaughnessy Fickel & Scott Architects, where they handled proposal writing, presentation strategies, and firm promotions.

Valerie's early career started as an Assistant Editor for Grit Magazine, where they edited layouts, wrote feature articles, managed freelance writers, and handled public relations for the publication.

Valerie Gieler, LEED AP, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, which they obtained from The University of Kansas between 1992 and 1996. Prior to their university education, Valerie attended Webster Groves High School from 1988 to 1992. Alongside their academic qualifications, they have also obtained additional certifications, including the Poynter ACES Certificate in Accurate, Audience-Focused Editing from the Poynter Institute and the ACES: Society for Editing, which they achieved in July 2022. Furthermore, Valerie is a LEED Accredited Professional, a certification awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2006.
