Hairong Gu has worked in a variety of roles since 2004. In 2004, they were an Intern at SAP where they tested SAP software and maintained online documentation. Hairong then worked as an Assistant Engineer at the Aerospace Telecommunication Institute from 2005 to 2011, designing electrical systems, high-frequency signal magnifiers, and testing and assembling telecommunication systems. From 2011 to 2017, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher, Teaching Assistant, and Research Assistant at The Ohio State University. During their time there, they optimized the production rate of carbon nanotube, developed predictive models using data-driven methods, and applied machine learning approaches to improve the efficiency of model fitting. From 2017 to 2020, they were a Statistical Consultant and Senior Statistical Consultant at Alliance Data, manipulating large-scale transactional and credit data, developing predictive models, and providing statistical consultancy. Hairong is currently a Senior Data Scientist at KeyBank, where they are leading a modeling project to support and improve the bank's acquisition initiatives.
Hairong Gu obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Fudan University in 2005. Hairong then went on to obtain a Master of Science (M.S.) in Experimental Psychology from East China Normal University in 2010. Following this, they obtained a Master of Applied Statistics in Statistical Modeling and Statistical Consulting from The Ohio State University in 2012. Hairong then went on to obtain a Master of Arts (MA) in Psychometrics and Quantitative Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychometrics and Quantitative Psychology from The Ohio State University in 2016. Hairong also holds a SAS Certified Base Programmer for SAS 9 certification from SAS.
