Matthew Payne has been working in the software engineering field since 2017. In 2016, they began as a Research Associate at NASA Ames Research Center, where they were part of the NASA Multidisciplinary Aeronautics Research Team Initiative and conducted research on sUAV GPS localization for urban flight under 50 ft elevation. In 2017, they became an Intern at Empirical Systems Aerospace, Inc., where they worked support for a NASA STTR Contract and studied system identification for small fixed wing UAV to use as a test bed for future electric distributed propulsion research. In 2019, they began working as a Software Engineer at Centauri and a Jr. Software Developer at The Design Knowledge Company. Currently, they are a Software Engineer at Kayhan Space.
Matthew Payne received their Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo in 2018, having started their studies there in 2014.
