Joan Carney

Joan Carney has extensive experience in the field of special education and neurorehabilitation, currently serving as the Director of Fairmount Rehabilitation Programs at Kennedy Krieger Institute since October 1986. In this role, Joan Carney directs pediatric neurorehabilitation programs that specialize in brain injury, cerebral palsy, and various acquired and developmental disabilities, emphasizing school and community re-entry. Prior to this position, Joan Carney worked as a special education teacher for Prince George's County Public Schools from September 1978 to June 1986. Joan Carney holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Special Education and Teaching from The Johns Hopkins University, earned between 2004 and 2012, a Master of Arts in Special Education and Teaching from The George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education and Teaching from The Catholic University of America.
