Papa Makhtar Drame

Scientist at Keros Therapeutics

Papa Makhtar Drame has a diverse work experience. Papa Makhtar started in 2011 as a Research Project Manager at the INSTITUT DE RECHERCHE POUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT, where they studied immune responses to malaria mosquito vector salivary proteins and validated the gSG6 protein as an epidemiological biomarker of malaria vector control efficacy. Papa Makhtar then moved on to The National Institutes of Health in 2013, where they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. There, they focused on discovering biomarkers for Loa loa infection and developed immunoassays for their detection and quantification. In 2018, Papa Makhtar Drame joined Kansas State University as a Postdoctoral Fellow Associate. Papa Makhtar continued their research on Loa loa infection biomarkers and also conducted proteomic analysis. From 2019 to 2021, they worked at Duke University as a Research Assistant Professor, leading a team in developing molecular methods for malaria diagnosis and risk assessment. Currently, they are employed at Keros Therapeutics as a Scientist, where they design and validates bioanalytical methods and serves as a Biomarker Lead for preclinical and clinical programs.

Papa Makhtar Drame completed their education at Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD). Papa Makhtar obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in an unspecified field of study from UCAD from 2001 to 2004. Papa Makhtar then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from UCAD between 2005 and 2007. Subsequently, they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biological Sciences and Human Pathologies from UCAD from 2007 to 2010.

In addition to their formal degrees, Papa Makhtar Drame also obtained several certifications. Papa Makhtar obtained a University Diploma in Statistical Methods in Health from Bordeaux School of Public Health (ISPED), University of Bordeaux 2, France in September 2009. Papa Makhtar also obtained a University Diploma in Methods & Practice in Epidemiology from the same institution in October 2008. Furthermore, they received a certification in Clinical Proteomics and Biomarker Discovery from the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES) in August 2015.
