Shyam Karki has over 25 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry, holding various leadership positions. Shyam is currently working at Kestrel Therapeutics as the Vice President and Head of CMC. Previously, Shyam worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb as a Senior Director in Drug Product Development, where they supported formulation design and development, process development, and technology transfer. Before that, they were the Senior Director & Head of Pharmaceutical Science and Formulation Development at Celgene Pharma. Shyam also worked at Biogen as the Director and Head of Small Molecule Drug Product Development, where they built and managed a team responsible for end-to-end CMC development. Shyam started their career at Merck as an Associate Director in Pharmaceutical Research & Development, leading the ophthalmic formulation group. Shyam also gained experience at Johnson & Johnson as a Principal Scientist and Director in Biologics Drug Product Development, as well as at Rohm and Haas as a Senior Scientist. Shyam began their career as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the NSF Center for Photo-Induced Charge Transfer, collaborating with scientists from Kodak and the University of Rochester.
Shyam Karki obtained a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Rochester, where they studied from 1989 to 1995. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry at Davidson College from 1984 to 1988.
