Phillip Reese is an Associate Professor of Journalism at California State University-Sacramento since July 2017, specializing in data journalism, data visualization, news reporting, and public affairs reporting. Concurrently, Phillip serves as a Data Journalism Specialist at Sacramento Bee, reporting and writing stories, maintaining online databases, and creating interactive graphics. Since January 2019, Phillip has contributed 8-12 data-driven stories annually for KFF Health News, focusing on California. Additionally, Phillip has experience as a Guest Lecturer at Stanford University, leading database reporting workshops, and previously reported for Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and News & Record, emphasizing data analysis and computer-assisted reporting. Phillip holds a BA in English from North Carolina State University and an MA in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
