M. Lucero Ortiz, Esq. has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Starting in 2006, they worked as a Legal Intern at CASA de Maryland, the North Carolina Justice Center, and the ACLU. In 2007, they served as a Law Fellow in the Chambers of the Honorable Ricardo M. Urbina at the US District Court through the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). From 2008 to 2010, Ortiz worked as the Director of Programs and Policy at the Hispanic National Bar Association. In 2010, they joined the U.S. Department of Labor, where they held positions such as Special Assistant in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM) and the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Secretary. From 2011 to 2017, they served as the Secretary and Chair of the Governance and Audit Committees on the Board of Directors at Mary's Center. Ortiz then worked as an Attorney at Law in Immigration Law, managing all aspects of their law practice. In 2018, they became the Director of Legal Services at the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), providing high-quality, low-cost immigration services to the community. Currently, since 2020, Ortiz is the Director for Partnerships and Capacity-Building at KIND Mexico, an organization that supports migrant children in need of legal representation.
M. Lucero Ortiz, Esq. obtained a Certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida in 2021. In 2018, they received a Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Management from Georgetown University. They completed their Juris Doctor degree in Law at American University Washington College of Law from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in International Development Studies and Chicana/o Studies from UCLA between 1997 and 2004. Finally, they obtained a High School Diploma from Willow Glen High School in 1997.
