Sonya Kavanagh

Sonya Kavanagh serves as the Chief Executive of Kildare County Council since January 2016, previously holding the position of Director of Services for Economic, Community & Cultural Development, where management of 148 staff and a revenue budget of €18 million was undertaken. Kavanagh has oversight of various departments including the Local Enterprise Office and the Library and Arts Network. Prior experience at Kildare County Council from July 2005 to September 2015 includes roles as Acting Director of Services and Senior Executive Officer in both the Roads Department and as a Housing Officer. Academic credentials include a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management from the National University of Ireland, completed in 2022.
