Michael Cordell

School Leader at KIPP DC Public Schools

Michael Cordell is the founding school leader of The Learning Center. He previously served as a chief academic officer at KIPP DC headquarters. Mr. Cordell is deeply and personally inspired to work with students with disabilities. His mother spent years working as a Special Education teacher on the south side of Chicago and he is the parent of a child with special needs. Prior to joining KIPP DC in July 2012, Mr. Cordell was the chief academic officer for Friendship Public Charter Schools, overseeing eleven different schools. Prior to Friendship, Mr. Cordell was a founding teacher at Chicago International Charter School. Mr. Cordell also worked for High Jump at The Latin School, where he taught high-performing, low-income middle school students. Mr. Cordell received his bachelor of science from Washington University in St. Louis, earned a master’s degree from Marquette University and completed all coursework for a Doctorate in Education at George Washington University.
