Chelsea Lopez

1st Grade Teacher at KIPP SoCal Public Schools

Chelsea Lopez has a range of experience in the education field, starting as a Corps Member for Teach For America from 2012 to 2014. In this role, they were selected from a large pool of applicants and received intensive training to teach in urban and rural communities. During their time with Teach For America, they also taught in a summer school program.

Following their work with Teach For America, Chelsea worked as an Early Childhood Teacher at the Latin American Community Center from 2012 to 2014. Chelsea then became a New Student Advisor at UCLA New Student and Transitions Programs in 2011, where they led groups of incoming students and provided guidance on various academic and campus-related topics.

In 2009, Chelsea served as a Resident Assistant at the UCLA Office of Residential Life, where they organized floor-wide and hill-wide programs for residents, trained in diversity and crisis management, and assisted with student development.

Additionally, Chelsea has experience as a City Pool Manager for the City of Colusa from 2009 to 2010, where they supervised lifeguards, managed pool operations, and conducted swimming lessons for children.

More recently, Chelsea has been an Elementary School Teacher at the Shaker Heights City School District since 2019, where they work with primary grade students. Prior to this, they were a 1st Grade Teacher at KIPP LA Schools from 2014 to 2019, and a Kindergarten Teacher at Breakthrough Schools from 2017 to 2019.

Chelsea Lopez attended UCLA from 2008 to 2012, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History. Following their undergraduate studies, they went on to pursue a Master of Education (MEd) degree at Wilmington University from 2012 to 2014, focusing on the field of Education.
