Lead Engineer - Development at Kiwibank

Lóan Burger has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Starting their career in the hospitality sector as a Room Division Manager at Hotel Osner in 2001, they later transitioned into teaching roles as an Assistant Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in tourism and hospitality. In 2008, Lóan ventured into the software development field, working as an Analyst Developer and Technical Analyst in different companies. They gained expertise in corporate property management software and office equipment rental management. Lóan then worked as a GIS Software Developer, focusing on geographic information systems in different sectors, before becoming a Lead Software Developer at Blackhawk.io. They had a prominent role in web and mobile application development in an Agile SCRUM environment. Joining Vision Software Limited as a Technical Analyst, Lóan contributed to the development of corporate property management software while providing customer support. They later joined Geographic Business Solutions as a GIS Software Developer, specializing in ESRI ArcGIS Web Development. At Xero, Lóan had a series of roles starting as a Graduate Team Lead, mentoring and leading software engineering graduates and interns. They then progressed to the position of Senior Engineer in Contacts, where they assisted new engineers in learning and contributed to product discovery and development. Lóan became a Lead Engineer in the Products & Services team before joining Kiwibank as a Lead Engineer in the borrowing transformation program. In this role, they lead a team of skilled engineers, collaborating with various stakeholders to build solutions based on event-driven architecture with the aim of delivering value to customers.

Lóan Burger has a diverse education history. Lóan started their education journey by attending Port Rex Technical High school from 1992 to 1996, where they obtained a High School diploma. Lóan then went on to enroll at the Tshwane University of Technology from 1998 to 2000, focusing on Hospitality Management.

In 2002 to 2003, Lóan studied at the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika, pursuing a Bachelor of Laws degree in Law. Following this, they attended WSU - Walter Sisulu University from 2004 to 2005, specializing in Tourism Management and obtaining a Bachelor of Technology degree (BTech).

After a break from formal education, Lóan returned to WSU - Walter Sisulu University from 2005 to 2007, this time studying Information Technology.

Apart from their formal education, Lóan Burger has also obtained several certifications. In December 2012, they became a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) through the Scrum Alliance. In February 2014, they achieved the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification, also from the Scrum Alliance. In August 2014, they obtained the Scrum Fundamentals Certified certification from SCRUMstudy - Accreditation Body for Scrum and Agile. Finally, in February 2015, Lóan earned the IITP Certified Technologist certification from the Institute of IT Professionals New Zealand (IITP).
