Carl Svärd has a diverse work experience that spans multiple industries. Carl started their career at Scania, where they worked as a Master Thesis Student and later as a Software Engineer. In 2007, they became an Industrial Doctoral Candidate, focusing on fault diagnosis and fault management in automotive applications. From 2012 to 2014, they worked as a Senior Engineer at Scania, where they led pre-development activities in the field of data mining and advanced data analytics for Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS). During this time, they also conducted research on heavy road-vehicle platooning and decision support systems for transport optimization.

In 2014, Svärd joined Schibsted Media Group as a Data Scientist, where they were involved in projects related to user attribute inference for ad targeting and subscription churn prediction for media houses. Carl later became a Staff Data Scientist and led the Natural Language Processing (NLP) team, focusing on developing NLP components and services for processing textual content from media houses and marketplaces. In 2017, they transitioned to the role of Engineering Manager, where they led a team of data scientists and software engineers in creating smart and data-driven products and services using AI and Machine Learning. In this role, they collaborated closely with product and engineering teams to build models and services that added value to the organization.

In 2019, Svärd joined PriceRunner as the Head of Data. In this role, they were responsible for the product data catalog and building and maintaining the organization encompassing data science, analytics, and operations. Carl built out PriceRunner's data science and advanced analytics capabilities from scratch, including strategy, hiring, overall architecture, processes, and ways of working.

Most recently, in 2022, Svärd joined Klarna as a Senior Data Science Manager. Their responsibilities in this role are not specified.

Carl Svärd completed their education at Linköping University. From 2001 to 2006, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Engineering Physics and Electrical Engineering. Carl further continued their studies at the same university and earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from 2007 to 2012.
