George Carlough

Vice President - Global Environment, Health & Safety at Komatsu Mining

George Carlough has over 30 years of experience in environmental health and safety. George started their career in the United States Air Force as a veteran from 1987 to 1990. After that, they worked as a Safety & Environmental Inspector at Lockheed Martin from 1991 to 1996. George then joined Chromalloy as an EHS Manager from 1996 to 2006. Following that, Carlough worked at Joy Global Inc. for 10 years, starting as an EHS Manager for America's region from 2006 to 2013, and later serving as a Senior Manager for EHS in the Americas North region and Global Safety/Industrial Hygiene Systems from 2013 to 2015. Currently, they are employed at Komatsu Mining as the Vice President of Global Environment, Health & Safety, a role they have held since November 2020. Prior to that, they were the Global Director of Environment, Health & Safety at the same company from 2015 to 2020.

George Carlough has a strong educational background in occupational safety, health, and environmental management. George earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Technology/Technician from Penn State University in the years 1984 to 1987. Later, they pursued higher education, receiving a Master of Science (MS) degree in Occupational Safety & Health from Columbia Southern University between 2010 and 2013. In addition to their degrees, George has obtained several certifications relevant to their field. George became a Registered Environmental Manager in September 2005 through the National Registry of Environmental Professionals. Furthermore, they obtained the Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer certification from the same institution in August 2017. George also became a Just Culture Certified Champion in September 2014 through Outcome Engenuity LLC. Lastly, they became an ALICE Certified Instructor in January 2018 through the ALICE Training Institute.
