About the role:

We are looking for a hands-on, driven, and experienced GLOBAL PAYROLL DIRECTOR to lead the US and International payroll processes for Kong. The position will be accountable for all payroll functions across 20+ countries globally, including but not limited to maintaining, improving and managing benefits, state/country payroll filings and HR compliance work relating to payroll. This position will report into the Sr. Director of Corporate Accounting and will be required to foster relationships with HR and external payroll vendors. The ideal candidate must be hands-on, have in-depth knowledge of ADP WorkforceNow, possess excellent leadership skills in identifying process gaps, and implementing scalable payroll process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and timely resolve payroll discrepancies by addressing the root cause and recommending mitigation plans to build business resilience.
  • Perform daily payroll operations for all employees, including collecting, documenting employee data, reviewing the data, and working through issues with internal and external partners to ensure payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, timely and compliant with all country, federal, state, and local payroll and regulatory requirements
  • Manage, maintain, and calculate monthly employee PTO accruals.
  • Drive, review and audit payroll cycles within ADP WorkforceNow and external payroll systems, including auditing of payroll data to ensure accurate wages, tax withholdings, deductions and garnishments
  • Ensure timely distribution and accurate processing of all monthly/quarterly/annual reporting and filing requirements
  • Assist with posting and reconciliation of payroll general ledger accounts
  • Implement effective controls, establish global payroll and stock administration policies, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and other legal requirements applicable in each country of operation
  • Partner with Stock Administration and Legal on equity-based activity (e.g., stock options, RSUs) and compliance with statutory reporting
  • Reconcile payments for HSA, FSA, 401k, and all company benefits
  • Act as ADP WorkforceNow system expert for Payroll – system administration, compliance with all payroll states, and maintenance (including ad hoc setup of new payroll states/codes) of all internal payroll codes/updates
  • Stay up to date with changes in tax and deduction laws in each country of operation and adjust payroll policies and procedures accordingly
  • And any additional tasks required by manager

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of direct in-house payroll processing experience and 5+ years of progressive experience with international country payrolls and exposure to PEO vendors.
  • Diverse HR experience (leave of absence, benefits, immigration, etc.) is a plus
  • Strong leadership skills balanced with a willingness to play a 'hands-on' role
  • Workday HCM and ADP WorkforceNow knowledge is required
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively manage concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Pristine work ethic and ability to handle sensitive and confidential material
  • Technical Knowledge including but not limited to global tax withholdings, reporting regulations, payroll tax accounting, holiday/PTO calculations, deductions, benefits, sick leave pays, and parental leave pays in each country of operation
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify, drive, scale, and implement process improvements in payroll systems, policies, and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll protocols, particularly with IRS regulations, Federal, State, and local tax and labor laws, as well as IRS Sections 401k and 125, and worker’s compensation required
