Hyttinen began their career at Scotiabank as the Senior Manager of Corporate Compensation. John directed the design, delivery, and communication of global broad-based compensation programs and policies. John provided counsel to senior business leaders and HR business partners to facilitate informed and effective decision-making.

Earlier in their career, Hyttinen worked at Sun Microsystems in various roles, including Global Total Rewards Leader, Total Rewards Account Manager, and Regional Total Rewards Manager. In these roles, they drove global total rewards strategy, managed compensation administration, provided consultation on total rewards, and delivered regional compensation and benefits consulting.
