Director of Intellectual Property   Korro is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing a new class of genetic medicines for both rare and highly prevalent diseases using its proprietary RNA editing platform. Korro is generating a portfolio of differentiated programs that are designed to harness the body’s natural RNA editing process to effect a precise yet transient single base edit. By editing RNA instead of DNA, Korro is expanding the reach of genetic medicines by delivering additional precision and tunability, which has the potential for increased specificity and improved long-term tolerability. Using an oligonucleotide-based approach, Korro expects to bring its medicines to patients by leveraging its proprietary platform with precedented delivery modalities, manufacturing know-how, and established regulatory pathways of approved oligonucleotide drugs. Position Overview: Korro Bio is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Intellectual Property to lead and manage our IP strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in intellectual property law with specific expertise in RNA biology or oligonucleotide technologies. This role reports into the GC and is critical to ensuring that Korro Bio’s innovative solutions are protected, while also providing strategic guidance on IP matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies aligned with Korro Bio’s business objectives. Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications to protect Korro Bio’s innovations worldwide, both directly and through management of outside counsel. Conduct IP due diligence for potential partnerships, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives. Collaborate with R&D teams to identify patentable inventions and advise on IP best practices. Manage and work closely with external IP counsel and law firms to ensure high-quality and cost-effective IP services. Monitor and assess competitive IP landscapes, conduct prior art searches, and analyze third-party patent positions to identify risks and opportunities. Review and assist in negotiating IP provisions of agreements, including license agreements and collaboration agreements. Review IP aspects of publications. Provide strategic IP guidance to senior management and cross-functionally to other stakeholders. Ensure compliance with all relevant IP laws and regulations. Conduct IP training sessions for employees to foster a culture of innovation and IP awareness.

Qualifications

Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in RNA biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to practice before the USPTO and a state bar. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in intellectual property law, with significant experience in RNA biology or oligonucleotide technologies. Proven track record of managing IP portfolios and developing IP strategies in a biotech or pharmaceutical company. Experience working in a law firm environment, with in-house corporate experience being a strong plus. Experience with patent administrative challenges is a plus. Strong understanding of the biotech industry and emerging trends in RNA technologies. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
