POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of  Finance will report to the Director of Finance and work closely with the BCS Executive Director to assist Black College Success through the development and implementation of sound and efficient financial systems and controls.  The primary role is to oversee all financial components of the initiative, and to establish financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems that support smooth and accurate financial operations. This role ensures that all income and expenses are recorded in compliance with State and Federal guidelines, laws, and regulations. This position requires data analysis, program budgeting, and project management skills. 

This is a full-time, exempt, grant funded position through 2026. This position may be extended based on funding.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Client Relations

  • Serve as primary contact for multiple project staff; provide financial analysis, management support and guidance.

  • With other team members, ensure that services are delivered efficiently, effectively and in a courteous and timely way.

  • Communicate regularly with program directors and provide a high level of customer service around short and long-term financial management and sustainability.

Financial Management

  • Support budget creation, budget projections and analysis of expenses as needed

  • ​​Experience with the implementation of accounting codes, general ledger account management, account reconciliation, account analysis, and preparation of financial statements

  • Ability to achieve results in a constantly evolving nonprofit environment, with demonstrated success building systems and tools to support changing funding and program goals

  • Review salaries being charged to projects and adjust to ensure correct allocation

  • Prepare, review and distribute monthly reports, funder reports and other.

  • Analyze and monitor projects’ fund and cash balances and keep the project and team informed of status issues

  • Work with a team to ensure timely and accurate processing of payables, deposits and billings

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience; CPA certification a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of FP&A experience and 5+ years of accounting experience preferred
  • Experience working with K-12 schools preferred
  • Experience with federal grant financial reporting
  • Experience with Excel and/or Quickbooks
  • Experience implementing budgets to departments and tracking of expenses

  • Must clear a LiveScan criminal background check
