Claire Engelen has worked in a variety of roles in the horticulture and agriculture industry. In 2015, they worked as a Staff Member at Colectivo Coffee. In 2016, they worked as a Crew Leader for Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa and as a Greenhouse Assistant - D.C. Smith Greenhouse at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, they worked independently and in a group with the greenhouse manager on general upkeep of the greenhouse such as cleaning and organizing supplies. Claire also watered, transplanted and performed other plant-care related tasks in the conservatory and houses. In 2017, they worked as a Food Educator at Common Threads Farm and as a Horticulture Intern at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, where they worked directly with horticulture staff to maintain the botanical garden, managed daily groups of volunteers working in the garden, and designed and planted pots, garden beds and trellises. In 2019, they worked as a Residential Maintenance Crew Lead at Blossom Earthworks and as a Camp Director and Farm Manager and Educator at Schoolyard Farms. In 2021, they worked as a Home Garden Mentor at PORTLAND EDIBLE GARDENS, LLC. Currently, they are working as a Data Operations Associate at LandscapeHub.

Claire Engelen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Conservation Biology, Environmental Studies and Spanish. In 2016, they attended Universidad San Francisco de Quito, also receiving a Bachelor's degree. Additionally, they obtained a Wilderness First Aid certification from NOLS in May 2016.
