Lija Strasuna has extensive work experience in the field of economics. Lija is currently working as the Chief Economist at Latvijas Banka since March 2021. In 2020, they held the position of Director of Economic Analysis department at the Public Utilities Commission of Latvia from April to November. Prior to that, Lija worked at Swedbank for a significant amount of time, taking on various roles. From August 2018 to March 2019, they served as the Chief Economist for Latvia. Lija also worked as a Senior Economist from August 2017 to July 2018, where they handled international research project management, economic research and forecasting (including scenario analysis), and the development of macroeconomic competence within the bank. Before these roles, they served as an Investor Relations Officer and a Senior Economist from August 2016 to July 2017 and from August 2005 to August 2016, respectively.
Lija Strasuna pursued their education in a chronological order. From 2003 to 2006, they attended Rīgas Ekonomikas augstskola - Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, where they obtained a BSc. degree in Economics and Business Administration. Then, between 2007 and 2009, they enrolled at Aarhus University, where they earned an MSc. degree in International Economic Consulting. Additionally, in 2008, they spent a term as an exchange student at Macquarie University, focusing on Economics.
