Ryan Velasco

VP at Laurel Strategies

Ryan Velasco brings more than 16 years of experience in strategic communications, advising a range of public and private sector clients; from crisis messaging and brand reputation to stakeholder engagement, government relations, and public-private partnerships.

Ryan has worked at the forefront of risk communications. As Vice President at Ogilvy, he led elements of a $130M communications contract supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). His private sector portfolio included the development of an executive visibility program for a major agriscience company. Ryan helps organizations think about how they improve alignment of communication objectives to customer experience and opportunities to leverage technology to drive social change and innovation. He served in the Obama Administration at the White House Council on Environmental Quality as a Deputy Associate Director on the Land and Water Team, leading a key initiative of the President’s Climate Action Plan.

A graduate of the College of Charleston, Ryan holds a BA in Historic Preservation and Community Planning. Ryan is passionate about urban design and historic preservation.
