Jorge Silva is a PhD student at The University of Queensland, specializing in the photonics group within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since January 2022. In addition to research, Jorge serves as a Teaching Assistant for courses on Photonics and the Fundamentals of Electromagnetic Waves and Fields. Prior experience includes tutoring Mathematics and Physics at Ginásios da Educação Da Vinci, serving as a Graduate Engineering Trainee at Bosch focused on optical sensing systems for autonomous driving, and conducting research at Universidade do Minho on graphene-based sensors and optical properties of multilayer structures. Jorge also held a position as a Visiting Researcher at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, working on simulations of waveguide structures for graphene-based sensors. Jorge holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics, a Master’s degree in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics from Universidade do Minho, and is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at The University of Queensland, expected to complete in June 2025.
