Director at Leadership for Educational Equity

Shelby B. has a diverse range of work experience across various organizations. Shelby started their career in 2009 as a Judicial Intern at the U.S. Courts of Appeals, where they gained valuable skills in legal writing and reasoning. Shelby then worked as a Summer Associate at Davis, Cedillo & Mendoza, Inc. in 2010. Shelby later joined The Achievement Network as an Item Editor and Creator, where they worked on assessment design and developed expertise in K-12 education.

In 2011, Shelby worked as a Consultant to NYC Department of Education through the Education Pioneers Fellowship program. During this time, they coached students to victory in a mock trial and realized their passion for education. Shelby continued to pursue their passion by joining Teach For America as a Leadership and Community Activism Program Designer. In this role, they designed curriculum and provided logistical support for teacher training programs.

Shelby then transitioned to Teachers United, where they held roles as Director of Operations and Interim Executive Director. Through these roles, they gained experience in HR, education policy, community organizing, and budget management. Shelby also developed a strong understanding of start-up operations and non-profit management.

In 2015, Shelby joined Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) as an Associate and later became the Director of Performance Evaluation and Growth. Shelby'sresponsibilities at LEE included project management, recruitment strategy, developing social strategies, and creating engaging communications materials.

Shelby also worked as an EP Alumni Consultant at the Education Pioneers at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where they provided strategic recommendations based on qualitative research and their experience in teacher voice organizations. Additionally, Shelby served as a NOVA Pro Bono Attorney at the State Bar of Texas from 2019 to 2020.

Most recently, Shelby joined Gallaway Consulting Group as a Senior Consultant in 2019. Overall, Shelby's work experience showcases their expertise in consulting, education, project management, communications, and non-profit management.

Shelby B. holds a JD degree from the University of Washington School of Law, which was obtained between 2008 and 2011. Prior to that, they pursued a MST degree in Education from Pace University, from 2003 to 2005. Shelby'sundergraduate studies were completed at Vanderbilt University, where they earned a BS degree in Human Development & Organizational Development from 1999 to 2003.

In addition to their formal education, Shelby B. has obtained several certifications. These include a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, obtained in May 2021, and an Unconscious Bias certification from LinkedIn, obtained in March 2021. In 2017, they completed the McKinsey Management Program: Problem Solving Course offered by McKinsey & Company. Furthermore, in October 2016, they acquired certifications in Instructional Design Essentials: Needs Analysis and Instructional Design Essentials: Storyboarding, both from LinkedIn. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Shelby B. is a licensed attorney, having obtained their license from the State Bar of Texas in 2012.
