Walter Newman

Senior Research Fellow at Leap Therapeutics

Walter Newman is currently a Senior Research Fellow at Leap Therapeutics. Prior to this, they were the Director at HealthCare Ventures LLC from 2007 to 2010, where they were responsible for reviewing the scientific merit and feasibility of applicants' proposals for venture financing. Newman then served as the Chief Scientific Officer and SVP R&D at Critical Therapeutics from 2002 to 2007. In 2008, they became the Chief Scientific Officer at DecImmune Therapeutics, where they helped bring a monoclonal antibody into clinical trials in 2016. Prior to that, Newman was the SVP Biotherapeutics at Milennium Pharmaceuticals from 2000 to 2001, and the Founding Scientist and SVP, Research at LeukoSite from 1993 to 2000.

Walter Newman's educational career began at Hackley School. Walter then attended Columbia College, Columbia University, where they studied chemistry and earned their BA. Next, they completed their PhD in immunochemistry at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Finally, they did a postdoctoral fellowship in immunology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Their manager is Douglas Onsi, President, CEO, CFO, Board Member. They are on a team with Gus Lawlor - Chief Operating Officer, Cyndi Sirard - Chief Medical Officer, and Mark O'Mahony - Chief Manufacturing Officer.
