Criminal Duty Counsel at Legal Aid Ontario

Michael Caswell has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Michael started their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Guelph in 2011. After that, they interned at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs in the Legal Services Branch in 2012. Michael then worked as a Law Clerk Intern at Lewis Law Professional Corporation in 2013, where they handled various administrative tasks and liaised with clients and law firms. Michael also served as a Financial Risk Assistant at the Ontario Public Service in 2014.

In 2014, Michael joined Queen's University Lederman Law Library as a Part-Time Student Assistant, supporting library operations. Michael also had multiple roles at Queen's Legal Aid, including Volunteer Caseworker, Summer Caseworker and Operations Coordinator, and Operations Coordinator. In these positions, they provided legal assistance to low-income individuals, drafted legal documents, and conducted legal research.

Michael continued their legal career as a Student at Law at Legal Aid Ontario in 2016, followed by an Associate position at Calvinho Criminal Defence in 2017. Michael then joined Dale Law Professional Corporation as an Associate Lawyer in 2018. Most recently, Michael has worked at Legal Aid Ontario as a Staff Criminal Lawyer and currently serves as a Criminal Duty Counsel.

Throughout their work experience, Michael has gained extensive knowledge and skills in criminal law, legal research, client communication, and document drafting.

Michael Caswell attended the University of Guelph from 2007 to 2011, where they completed a BA Honours degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy. In 2012, they enrolled in Seneca College and obtained a Diploma in Law Clerk (Accelerated) in 2013. From 2013 to 2016, Michael pursued a Doctor of Law (JD) degree at Queen's University.
