Willy Appelman has worked in a variety of roles in the entertainment industry. Willy began their career in 2008 as a Production Intern at The Second City, where they were responsible for filing expense reports, transcribing and archiving undocumented scenes, editing inserts for understudies and organizing packets for touring companies. Willy then moved on to a Production Intern role at The Colbert Report in 2009, where they were responsible for preparing props, logging show elements, organizing and distributing show scripts, researching video clips for segments and updating and transcribing show scripts. Willy also assisted in the audience and accounting department and supported the production staff. In 2009, they worked as a Production Assistant for HBO's Wanda Sykes: I'ma Be Me, where they were responsible for set up and break down of production offices and dressing rooms, as well as assisting the control room during rehearsal and taping of the show. In 2010, they became the Marketing Manager at The Magnet Theater. From 2016 to 2017, they worked as an Adjunct Professor at New York University, and then as a Teacher at Atlantic Theater Company from 2017 to 2020. Most recently, they have been working as a Program Manager at Lessonface and as a Producer at Fast Company, where they are responsible for writing, performing, and directing comedic office-based original content.

Willy Appelman attended Skidmore College from 2005 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Theater, Acting, and Marketing.
