Lisbeth Ramirez-Carvajal

Senior Scientist at Leyden Labs

Lisbeth Ramirez-Carvajal has a diverse background in virology and laboratory management. Lisbeth is currently working as a Senior Scientist at Leyden Labs starting from June 2023. Prior to this, they worked at uniQure as a Molecular Virology Scientist from July 2021 to June 2023. Lisbeth also served as a Postdoctoral Scientist in Virology at Utrecht University from February 2021 to July 2021, where they focused on improving self-amplifying RNA vaccines and discovering new antiviral strategies.

Before their time at Utrecht University, Lisbeth held two positions at the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal (SENASA) Costa Rica. Lisbeth worked as the Jefe de servicios de laboratorio from October 2018 to February 2021, where they managed technical operations, quality control/assurance, and strategy functions of the national microbiology and chemistry laboratories. Prior to this, they were a Research Consultant at the same organization from October 2016 to October 2018, working at the National Laboratory of Animal Health.

From November 2017 to April 2019, Lisbeth worked as a Principal Researcher at Universidad de Costa Rica. Lisbeth also conducted research as an Investigador posdoctoral at the Plum Island Animal Disease Ctr from September 2014 to August 2016, focusing on the pathogenesis of foreign animal diseases and developing interventions and diagnostic tools.

Lisbeth started their career at Texas A&M University, where they completed their PhD in virology from August 2009 to August 2014. Lisbeth also worked as a Research Assistant at the university from February 2011 to July 2011. Additionally, Lisbeth served as a Visitor Researcher at Plum Island Animal Disease Center from June 2011 to August 2011. Before their time at Texas A&M, they worked as a Research Assistant in Virology at Universidad Nacional from May 2008 to July 2009.

Lisbeth Ramirez-Carvajal completed their education in a chronological order. Lisbeth started at Universidad Nacional from 2002 to 2008, where they pursued a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Following this, they attended Texas A&M University from 2009 to 2011, earning a Master's degree in Biomedical Science. Finally, they continued their education at Texas A&M University from 2011 to 2014, where they obtained a PhD in Biomedical Science.
