Gary Rutland

Gary Rutland is currently the VP of Technology at Lickd. Prior to this, they were with Kobalt Music for 3 years and 4 months, where they held various positions including Staff Engineer, Manager, and Technology. During their time with Kobalt, Gary proposed and implemented multiple AWS Organisations to reduce blast radius and increase security. Gary also trained and mentored a team of 9 people, spoke at multiple events, and identified, prototyped, and productionised a secure download service for client’s financial statements. Gary also migrated from a setup where an application would have a nginx reverse proxy forwarding traffic to multiple services consisting of one ELB and two EC2s (each running one container) to a single ALB for each application and just ECS Fargate for each service. This reduced the maintenance cost by over 30 hours per month. Gary also introduced and implemented a Docker entrypoint script written in Golang to securely load environment variables from AWS SSM Parameter Store.

Gary Rutland attended Solent University from 2006 to 2008, where they obtained an HND in Internet Computing.
