Summer Shelton, PhD, has a diverse range of work experience in the fields of advertising, marketing, and academia. Summer has worked as a Research Director at Limelight Insights by Shugoll since 2022. Previously, they were a Subject Matter Expert at McGraw-Hill, where they developed advertising curriculum and content for textbooks and managed online course exercises. Summer also worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern Indiana, teaching advertising and public relations courses.
Prior to that, Summer worked as an Advertising and Social Media Management Consultant for various local businesses, handling research, strategy development, advertising planning and buying, and contract negotiations. Summer also taught advertising courses as an Assistant Professor at Idaho State University, where their students achieved notable success in the National Student Advertising Competition.
Summer's educational background includes a doctoral degree from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, where they worked as a research and teaching assistant. Summer also gained marketing experience as a Marketing intern at Child Focus in 2013.
Dr. Summer Shelton obtained their Ph.D. in Mass Communication/Media Studies from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications in 2019. Prior to that, they completed their Master's Degree in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communication at Florida State University from 2014 to 2016. Summer also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations & Asian Studies from Marietta College, which they received from 2010 to 2014. In addition, they earned a Project Management Support Certificate from Florida State University.
