Julie Bosland has a long history of leadership in the public and nonprofit sectors. Julie began their career in 1994 as a Watson Fellow conducting independent research in India. In 1997, they were appointed Assistant Deputy Mayor of Policy and Planning for the City of Philadelphia, where they helped design and draft successful proposals for Welfare-to-Work and McKinney funding. In 1998, they were appointed Special Assistant to the Commissioner of the Administration for Children, Youth, and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In 2000, they were appointed Assistant Director of the Welfare Reform Team at the Domestic Policy Council in The White House. In 2001, they were appointed Program Director of Early Childhood and Family Economic Success at the National League of Cities, where they developed new program areas to promote financial empowerment and early childhood success. From 2005 to 2009, they served as a consultant for the National League of Cities, Institute for Youth, Education and Families. In 2014, they were appointed Founding Director of ThinkShift/DeBruce Foundation, a social innovation collaborative aimed at promoting upward mobility and economic security. Finally, in 2017, they were appointed Chief Impact Officer and Associate Director of Public Sector Innovation at Living Cities, where they lead the Project on Municipal Innovation and the City Accelerator program.
Julie Bosland attended Swarthmore College from 1990 to 1994, where they earned a BA in Political Science & Sociology. Julie then went on to Princeton University, School of Public and International Affairs from 1995 to 1997, where they earned an MPA in Domestic Policy.
