Job description

About Loam

At Loam, we have the earth in our hands. As a team of scientists, agronomists, farmers and entrepreneurs, we are on a mission to improve the world’s farmland and address climate change. We are developing microbial technology to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and build carbon in agricultural soils. We help farming businesses prosper by boosting yield and soil health and enabling access to carbon markets.

Our work is fast-paced and multidimensional. We foster a supportive and diverse workplace, where every team member is encouraged to learn and grow beyond their area of expertise.

While everyone at Loam is working in different roles, we all have one job; to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it in stable forms in the soil.

About the Role

As an Agronomist, you will represent Loam by servicing SecondCrop Carbon Projects within a designated region. SecondCrop Carbon projects target grain farming enterprises throughout Australia and are a partnership to build soil carbon using groundbreaking science and unique Loam products, which increases opportunities for Australian grain growers.

The primary objective is to provide agronomic service to growers within Loam Carbon Projects, to assist them with improvements in soil carbon levels, and therefore improve plant production efficiencies.

This newly created role would see you as part of the commercial operations team, where you would be concentrating your activities and responsibilities towards expanding Loam’s agronomic presence and reputation across the designated region.

Reporting to Loam’s National Technical Agronomy Manager, your core focus would be the service of existing and future SecondCrop growers, with specialist carbon agronomy suggestions and practices. This may include explanation and documentation about their GreenHouse Gas emissions. It may also include the writing of land management strategies, which form part of the carbon project registration process.

Open Role Dependent: This is a remote position covering the region of either;

  • Northern NSW

  • Southern NSW & Central VIC

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-farm agronomic and technical support, in alignment with Loam’s agronomic operations and service standards. This would include highlighting our products', agronomic benefits for soil health and function, to produce positive farmer outcomes.
  • Work with the National Technical Agronomy Manager, to support grower partners with new and existing specialist carbon agronomy support, and build strong working relationships with them, as required.
  • Provide regional agronomic intel and findings, to the National Technical Agronomy Manager, to aid in the development of Loam’s products, services and programs.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of agronomic knowledge and particularly soil function and microbiology, to communicate the benefits of soil carbon and Loam’s programs.
  • Collaborate with the engagement team on field activities, including demonstrations, trials, field days, and farmer meetings, in alignment with Loam's operational strategy, as required.
  • Provide a high-level of record keeping, periodic reports and data accuracy via a CRM.
