Olga Kuzmina

Olga Kuzmina, PhD CMIOSH, has a diverse work experience in the fields of health and safety, research, and project management.

Olga is currently serving as the Head of Health and Safety at London Metropolitan University, where they lead and directs the activities of the H&S team, provides advice and support to the Senior Leadership Team, and ensures compliance with health and safety standards.

Prior to this, Olga worked at Imperial College London, first as a Faculty Safety Manager overseeing the H&S requirements for multiple departments and leading a team responsible for inspections and incident investigations. Olga also served as a Faculty Safety Adviser, providing expert advice and coordinating safety measures for research activities.

Olga also gained experience in the private sector as an R&D Chemist at AkzoNobel, where they conducted research into new paint and coating formulations to minimize employee exposure to inhalation risks.

Earlier in their career, Olga held roles as a Project Manager and Engineer at the Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibers (IBWCh), where they established and supervised the development of a new research facility for polymeric materials. Olga also conducted research on polysaccharides for the sustainable development of textiles and established international collaborations.

Olga's work experience also includes roles as a Process Engineer at SED (formerly Svetlana) and as a Research Assistant at Saint-Petersburg University of Technology and Design, where they calibrated instruments and supported research activities.

Olga Kuzmina, PhD CMIOSH, holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Chemistry from Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, obtained in the years 2009 to 2012. Olga also has a Master of Science (M.Sc.), Eng. degree in Chemistry from The State University of Technologies and Design, St-Petersburg, earned between 2003 and 2008. In 2021 to 2022, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Essex Business School. In the field of Occupational Health and Safety, they obtained an NVQ Diploma Level 6 from City and Guilds & ProQual from 2018 to 2020. Olga Kuzmina also holds additional certifications such as being a Member Chartered Chemist of the Royal Society of Chemistry, completing the ILMDP Level 5 Diploma in Management from the Chartered Management Institute, the NEBOSH General Certificate from NEBOSH, Biosafety Practitioner Level 1 from ISTR, Foundation Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (CIEH Level 2) from CIEH, and the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification obtained in July 2016.
