Kira Smiley

Kira Smiley has a diverse work experience, spanning various companies and roles. Kira began their career at Stanford University in 2014, working as a Psych Summer Fellow at the Tsai Culture and Emotion Lab. In 2017, they held multiple positions, including a Visiting Researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute and an Energy and Environment Unit Intern at Mitsubishi Research Institute. Kira also served as a Research Assistant at the Freeman Spogli Institute Center on Food Security and the Environment at Stanford University. In 2018, Kira worked as a Schneider Renewable Energy & Policy Fellow at the National Audubon Society.

In 2019, they joined Student Organized Services as a Sustainability Facilitator. At X, the moonshot factory, Kira held various roles starting in 2019, including a Program Manager for the X Project (now Food for Good at Google) and as a Program Manager for Tidal @X (formerly Google[x]). Kira also worked as an Experiments & Incubation Program Manager and is currently a Business Development Manager for Tidal at X.

Throughout their career, Kira has demonstrated a keen interest in sustainability, food security, and environmental research. Kira has worked on NSF grant projects, curriculum design, and consulting in the Solutions Science Lab and Stanford Civil & Environmental Engineering Department. Additionally, Kira has been involved in teaching and course assistance related to future food and farming technology and the world food economy at Stanford University.

Kira Smiley has a diverse education history. Kira completed their Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Sustainable Global Food Security & the Environment from Stanford University. Before that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with Honors from the same university, majoring in Earth Systems with a focus on Human Environmental Systems. Prior to their university education, Kira received an International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Diploma from Bend Senior High School. For their I.B. Diploma, they specialized in HL Psychology, HL Physics, HL English, SL French, SL Chemistry, and SL Maths.

In addition to their formal education, Kira holds a certification as an Open Water Diver, which they obtained in June 2021 from PADI.
