Salary: £40,000 - £65,000 DOE

Looper Insights is a fast growing scale up in the Video on Demand (VoD) industry focused on providing data and insights across Connected TV (CTV) and web stores. Our B2B SaaS analytics has been licensed by many of the big Global streamers and Hollywood studios in the last 18 months. We are about to go after a new untapped market.

Our product is an innovative and unique SaaS analytics solution, presenting data captured by our own hardware and software. We analyse product positioning for any app, content and streaming service shown in the digital User Interface (UI) of connected devices. 

Clients need visibility of their products to create promotions that drive their sales, views, customer acquisition and help reduce customer churn in the hyper competitive world of streaming services. We are the first mover in this new category.

We have established data labs in 21 countries to collect data and analyse insights on Film and TV placement. We provide data for marketers to get full visibility on the correlation between promotions, sales spikes, ROI on promotions and insights they can use to plan strategies and tactics which improve their overall ROI. Our clients include VoD stores, Film/TV Studios and Broadcasters.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer who will be responsible for designing, constructing, installing, testing, and maintaining highly scalable data management systems, ensuring the optimal architecture is in place for processing and storing data efficiently. They will play a crucial role in enabling data-driven decision-making by providing reliable, timely access to data with relevant tools and frameworks. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Data Pipeline Construction: Design, construct, and maintain efficient, scalable data pipelines to gather data from various sources, ensuring the seamless flow of data throughout the organisation.

  • Database Management: Oversee the design, deployment, and management of databases to store and retrieve data efficiently, ensuring data integrity and security.

  • Data Storage Solutions: Implement and manage data warehousing and data lake solutions that support storing, integrating, and analysing large volumes of data.

  • Managing ETL/ELT: responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust ETL and ELT processes to ensure the efficient and reliable flow of data.

  • Data Quality Assurance: Develop processes and tools to monitor data quality, ensuring that the data used for analysis is accurate and consistent.

  • Insights: facilitate data-driven insights by optimising data flows and recommending impactful analytics and visualisations.

  • Data Security: Implement measures to ensure data privacy and security, complying with legal and company standards.

  • Performance Optimisation: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks in data pipelines, and implement solutions to enhance data processing efficiency.

  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business teams to understand data needs and deliver the required data in a usable format for analysis and decision-making.

  • Engagement: Active participation in team efforts, preparing and collaborating in meetings such as standups, planning, deployment etc. Contribute to a cohesive team environment by being adaptable and flexible.

  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with other engineers, UX/UI designers, and product managers to deliver top-notch solutions.

  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Being adaptable and continuously learning new technologies and frameworks is crucial.

  • Stay Updated: Keep abreast of new technologies and methodologies in data engineering to improve data systems and infrastructure continuously.

What we're looking for

  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in languages such as Python, SQL, and Scala.

  • Database Management: Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).

  • Data Pipeline Tools: Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools like AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, Luigi, or similar

  • Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka.

  • Cloud Services: Understanding of cloud services (AWS) especially related to data storage, processing, and analytics.

  • Data Modeling: Skills in data modeling and understanding of data warehouse concepts and architectures.

  • Data Security: Knowledge of data security practices, including encryption and access control.

  • Communication: Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders.

  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, teamwork, leadership skills, conflict resolution, the ability to work under pressure, and time management.

  • Version Control: Experience with version control tools, such as Git.

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer.

  • A proven track record of successful project delivery, team leadership, and innovation in a technology-driven environment

Desirable skills & qualifications

  • AWS Experience: Experience with AWS services is highly desirable.

  • Big Data Management: Analyse and Manage Big Data.

  • Microservices Architecture: Knowledge of microservices, serverless architecture and containerization tools like Docker, Kubernetes etc.

  • Advanced degrees or certificates in technology

  • Experience in the startup ecosystem or in scaling technology for growing companies

  • Cross-functional experience, such as in product management or customer success to foster collaboration and innovation across departments
