Lamar A. Davis

On October 30th, 2020, Colonel Lamar A. Davis was appointed as the 26th Superintendent of the Louisiana State Police. He also serves as Deputy Secretary of Public Safety Services. This responsibility spans an agency of more than 2600 employees, with a budget over $492 million and collections of over $2.5 billion in revenue. As Deputy Secretary, he oversees along with the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Office of Management and Finance, the Office of Motor Vehicles, the Office of State Fire Marshal, the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office, and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Commission.

Colonel Davis, a native of Baton Rouge, earned a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services from Southern University Baton Rouge and a Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice from Southern University New Orleans. He began his career with Louisiana State Police in 1998 as a patrol Trooper assigned to Troop A in Baton Rouge. Colonel Davis has held career assignments in Patrol, Criminal Intelligence, Gaming Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, and Operational Development. Prior to his appointment, he served as Commander of the Technology and Business Support Section.

Colonel Davis has over 25 years of law enforcement experience where he previously served as a Department of Public Safety Police Officer, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy, and a Louisiana Department of Corrections Officer. He served active duty with the U.S. Army and the Louisiana Army National Guard. Colonel Davis is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (244th Session), a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 31), and the recipient of numerous commendations and awards, including Professional Excellence, Meritorious Service Award, Unit Citation and the Physical Fitness Award. He and his wife have one son.
