Research Scientist at Lumos Diagnostics

Steven Vaughn has over 12 years of experience in the life sciences industry. In 2008, they began their career as a Quality Lab Tech at Illumina, where they inspected raw materials used for the BeadChip and Solexa instruments. Steven then moved to Roka Bioscience in 2010 as a Research Associate 2, conducting studies on food borne pathogens to help achieve AOAC approval for Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli O157:H7 assays for the Atlas automated instrument. In 2015, Steven joined GenMark Diagnostics as a Senior Research Associate, contributing to the development of several assays for GenMark's ePlex pathogen diagnostic instrument. Steven then joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2018 as a Scientist II, screening hundreds of FFPE tumor tissue samples to isolate and obtain oncogenic sequence variations crucial for future studies on the Oncomine Dx Target Test. In 2019, Steven began working at both DNA Electronics and Lumos Diagnostics, where they served as a Scientist and Research Scientist, respectively. At DNA Electronics, they were responsible for curation and preparation of bacterial/fungal samples for the development of an in vitro diagnostic assay, and authored and implemented GLP documentation for lab procedures to prepare for regulatory audits. At Lumos Diagnostics, Steven developed and optimized lateral flow assays for a variety of different diagnostic tests and worked closely with clients to track funding, project timelines, and provide experimental data.

Steven Vaughn attended California State University San Marcos from 2005 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Microbiology, General.
