Rod Loewen

CTO & Founder at Lyncean Technologies

Rod Loewen, Ph.D. is CTO and a Founder of Lyncean Technologies, Inc. As a former Engineering Physicist at the SLAC National Laboratory, he worked on RF/microwave components for advanced X band accelerators, control systems for automated testing, and electromagnetic modeling software. Returning to Stanford University for graduate work, Rod pursued development of pulsed, high-power optical cavities involving solid state lasers, optical cavity design, and hardware feedback systems. Motivated by a collaborative project with Stanford business school students doing a case study for the development and commercialization of an advanced x-ray source coupling an optical cavity with an electron storage ring, he brought the business idea for Lyncean to life. At Lyncean he was responsible in the development phase for the laser optical system and now oversees all aspects of technology development and technology leadership at Lyncean. Personally he enjoys wrangling all kinds of photons – from RF to IR to X-rays – which all play a major role in the Compact Light Source.
