John Akakpo

Head, Technical Solutions Ghana at MainOne

John Akakpo has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple companies. John began their career at Vodafone Ghana as an O&M Engineer and later took on the role of an IN/VAS Support Specialist. During their time at Vodafone, they conducted operations and maintenance activities at the SAT-3 Cable Station in Accra and provisioned client and network services.

John then moved to MainOne where they held various positions, including NOC Support Assistant Manager, Manager of Technical Solutions, and eventually Head of Technical Solutions for Ghana, CIV & Francophone WA. In these roles, they managed solution design teams, coordinated with commercial teams to develop and deploy connectivity solutions, and managed customer service delivery lifecycle. John also played a key role in the integration of the Google Fiber Accra project onto MainOne Ghana Network and the onboarding of CSquared Ghana as a MainOne 3rd party vendor.

Throughout their career, John has demonstrated expertise in project management, program management, and effective collaboration with stakeholders. John has also been involved in the deployment and maintenance of new products and solutions. Most recently, they led the development and deployment of data center fiber interconnect solutions in 2021 for MDXi Appolonia Data Center in Accra.

John Akakpo has a diverse education history. John began their studies in 1997 at Prempeh College, where they earned their SSSCE degree in Science in 1999. After a few years, they enrolled at Multimedia University and pursued a Diploma in Telecom Engineering from 2001 to 2003. Later on, from 2005 to 2007, they attended Methodist University College Ghana and obtained a BSc degree in Information Technology. In addition to their formal education, John Akakpo has also acquired a Mini MBA in Telecoms – a Blueprint for Future Business from Wray Castle in January 2023.
