Debra Cope began their career as a Staff Writer at the American Bankers Association in 1980, before moving on to roles such as Legislative Writer at the National Association of Home Builders and Staff Editor at the Bureau of National Affairs. Debra then became the Washington Bureau Chief at National Mortgage News, covering the savings and loan crisis, before serving as Executive Editor at American Banker. Debra later worked at Bloomberg News as the North American Banking Team Leader and as a Director of Communications at Promontory Financial Group. Debra then founded Cope Financial PR, Inc., where they served as President until 2022. Currently, they are the Senior Vice President & Head of Corporate Communications at MainStreet Bank, focusing on media, executive, financial, and investor relations.
Debra Cope earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English from Butler University in 1980. Debra also studied English and Law at Aberystwyth University from 1978 to 1979.
