Marc Bayer currently serves as Vice President of Marine Operations at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, a position held since October 2018 following the acquisition of Andeavor, where Bayer was Senior Director of Marine Operations from August 2017. Prior to that, Bayer was Director of Shipping Operations at Tesoro Corporation from December 2000 to August 2017, during which time Tesoro rebranded to Andeavor. Bayer's career in the maritime industry began at BP, where responsibilities included Marine Superintendent and Port Superintendent from April 1992 to December 2000. This role transitioned to the Alaska Tanker Company. Initially, Bayer gained experience as a Merchant Marine Officer from May 1982 to January 1992, advancing from Third Mate to Captain on various foreign and US Flag tankers. Bayer holds a BS in Deck from California State University Maritime Academy, completed in 1982, and graduated from Aptos High School in 1978.
