Akira Kurogane

Akira Kurogane has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Their most recent role was as a Distributed Data Consultant at Marionete, starting in May 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Percona as an (Eng.) MongoDB Product Owner, leading the development of Percona's Enterprise MongoDB product additions and tools. Akira also served as a MongoDB Tech Lead at Percona.

Before their time at Percona, Akira worked at Rakuten as a MongoDB Specialist and at MongoDB, Inc. as a Senior TSE. At Rakuten, they specialized in MongoDB, and at MongoDB, Inc., they were an expert in triaging incidents and conducting fine-grained performance analysis in commercial distributed database deployments.

Prior to their work in the technology industry, Akira was a Motorbike Adventurer, traveling through various countries. Akira also founded their own company, Kurogane Database K.K., where they provided database and development services to an electronics retailer. Additionally, Akira has experience in the finance sector, having worked as a Developer at BNP Paribas and as an IT Administrator and Developer at SSJ Debt Servicing K.K. In these roles, they were involved in data analysis and consolidation, system setup, and software development.

Throughout their career, Akira has held various roles with responsibilities ranging from development and system administration to recruitment, HR, executive reporting, and training delivery. Akira has a strong expertise in MongoDB and distributed databases and has worked in both technical and leadership capacities.

Akira Kurogane pursued higher education from 1994 to 1996 at the University of Melbourne, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in HPS (History and Philosophy of Science) with a specialization in Physics. In addition, Akira obtained a certification as a Data Engineer Professional from Databricks in June 2023.
