Justin joined the M&S Board on 1 January 2019. With over thirty years of experience working in and leading large businesses, Justin brings in-depth knowledge of retail transformation and operations as well as a good historic understanding of the M&S business and values.

Justin was appointed as Chairman of Dexters Group in October 2022. Justin stepped down as the Vice Chairman of Terra Firma in October 2018 but continued in his role as an adviser until May 2021. Justin also sat on the Public Interest Body of PwC until March 2022.

Sacha joined M&S in 1994 through the Graduate training programme and undertook various Retail appointments across the country including General Manager of Marble Arch Store and Regional Manager for London. In 2007 Sacha joined the Property Group as Head of Property Planning & Store Development where he was responsible for both new space development and the store modernisation programme, before being appointed Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive in 2009. Following this Sacha joined the General Merchandise division as Director of Merchandising before taking up his current position of Retail, Operations & Property Director in November 2012. In May 2021, Sacha was appointed Group Property, Store Development and IT Director.

Nick was Chief Executive of the Crown Prosecution Service in 2016 & 2017, a role where he also led a £300 million cross-government IT change programme reforming the criminal justice system. Prior to that, he was Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief External Affairs Officer of the Co-op, playing a pivotal role in saving the Co-op Bank and rescuing the group from its existential crisis in 2013 and then reforming the organisation's governance.

Nick joined the Co-op from B&Q’s owner, Kingfisher plc, where he was a member of the retail board and held a number of executive positions over the period 2007-13. He led the development of the sustainability strategy 'Net Positive' and was responsible for the Group's government affairs programme.

Nick has extensive legal and governance experience, having been General Counsel and Company Secretary in FTSE 100 businesses since 2001; originally qualifying as a solicitor at Linklaters & Paines in 1993. He is a founder and honorary life member of the industry body, the GC100.

Nick is the Senior Independent Member of the Natural Environment Research Council – the UK’s leading public funder of environmental science – a non-departmental public body, part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Nick joined the HMPPS as a Non-Executive Member of the HMPPS Audit and Risk Assurance Committee in May 2021.

Jeremy joined M&S as Interim CFO on the 22nd November 2022 and brings a wealth of financial leadership experience. Jeremy has held senior financial and non-executive roles across several public companies and most recently, was the Group CFO Rentokil Initial Plc.

Jeremy also spent seven years in senior leadership roles at Sainsbury's and served as a Non-Executive Director of Morrison's PLC.

Jeremy Townsend

Sarah has been Group HR Director since March 2022. She joined Marks & Spencer in 1998 through the HR Graduate programme and undertook HR Business Partner roles in stores and regions across the country, before joining the Support Centre in 2010 as Head of HR Strategy Planning. In 2011 she became Head of Employee Relations, Engagement and Planning, and in 2014 was promoted to Head of Organisational Development where she had global accountability for Talent, Learning and Development. Sarah led the people agenda for the Clothing & Home business for three years, before moving to business partner the Chief Operating Officer in 2020, taking on accountability for the 50,000 colleagues in Retail Operations in addition to Group Talent, Reward and Wellbeing and the HR Systems Transformation Programme. 

Sarah sits on the Princes Trust Retail Leadership Group and is G20 EMPOWER alliance advocate, a Private Sector Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation (EMPOWER).

Victoria McKenzie-Gould has been a part of Marks & Spencer’s leadership team as Corporate Affairs Director since 2019, heading-up Colleague Communications, External Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainability. She is also the Executive Sponsor for Inclusion & Diversity across the business.

Victoria worked for Rt Hon Sir Tony Blair for seven years; initially as a Special Advisor at 10 Downing Street and then as a Senior Advisor after standing down as Prime Minister. Following this she served as Group Government Affairs Director at Tesco and then Corporate Affairs Director at Britvic.

Victoria is also a Non-Executive Director for Allwyn UK and a member of the Advisory Board for her alma mater, University of Liverpool Management School.

Victoria McKenzie-Gould

Alex joined M&S in November 2022 from Australia’s pre-eminent beer, wine and spirits retailer, Dan Murphy’s, where he held the role of Managing Director. Dan Murphy's is the leading part of Endeavour Group's Retail offering and was a key contributor to Endeavour's successful performance during Alex's tenure.

Alex has a wealth of experience having worked in food retailing for nearly two decades. Alex began his career in the dotcom sector and then moved to Tesco as a leader in its Telecoms business. Alex developed his career at Tesco through commercial functions, before moving to Australia to work at Coles, one of the country's leading supermarkets. Whilst at Coles he successfully led Health, Beauty & Baby, Packaged Grocery and Fresh Foods. As Fresh Foods Director he led an ambitious growth strategy by improving the product proposition, developing new categories, introducing new store formats, and launching a successful Food2Go business.

Alex Freudmann

Shaw previously served as wine buying director at Conviviality Retail, before moving on to becoming buying director at Bibendum Wine.

Prior to that, he served at upmarket grocer Waitrose as buying manager from 2007 to 2012.

Andrew Shaw

Katharine Haenelt is the current Director of Fresh Food Trading at [Marks and Spencer](/org/marks-and-spencer). Prior to their current position, Haenelt served as Sales and Marketing Director at ABP UK from July 2011 to January 2020. Before ABP UK, they were the Head of Sales at Norseland Ltd from September 2007 to July 2011 where they were responsible for all sales, category, and trade marketing activities for UK and Ireland across Retail, Wholesale, and Foodservice. Haenelt has also served as Senior National Account Manager at Ilchester Cheese Company Ltd from June 2006 to September 2007.

Katharine Haenelt has a background in business strategy, change management, and disruption and innovation. Katharine attended the MIT Sloan School of Management and the [Harvard Business School](/org/harvard-business-school), where they focused on driving digital strategy and disruptive innovation. Katharine also has experience in authentic leadership development from their time at the [Harvard Business School](/org/harvard-business-school).

Pav Anand is the current Director of Food Strategy, Transformation & Online at [Marks and Spencer](/org/marks-and-spencer). Pav has over fifteen years of experience in strategic consulting, with a focus on the retail and FMCG sectors. 

Pav began their career as an Associate Consultant at ZS Associates from September 2002 to February 2005. Pav then moved to [McKinsey & Company](/org/mckinsey-company) as an Associate Principal from February 2005 to April 2013, before joining [Tesco](/org/tesco) PLC as Strategy Director in April 2013. At [Tesco](/org/tesco), Pav co-led the Group Strategy function, helping to shape the strategic direction of the business across the globe. Pav reported directly to the Group CFO and, from 2015 onwards, focused on leading the team’s work in the core UK market, providing strategic support directly to the UK CEO and Executive as part of [Tesco](/org/tesco)’s turnaround programme.

Pav Anand’s extensive experience in strategic consulting makes him well-suited for their current role as Director of Food Strategy, Transformation & Online at [Marks and Spencer](/org/marks-and-spencer). In this role, they are responsible for leading [Marks and Spencer](/org/marks-and-spencer)’s food strategy, transformation and online initiatives – all crucial areas for the company’s ongoing success.

Pav Anand graduated from the [University of Cambridge](/org/university-of-cambridge) with a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree.

Lizzy Massey is the Director of Ambient Trading at [Marks and Spencer](/org/marks-and-spencer). Prior to this, they served as a Member of the Board of Trustees for THE ASDA FOUNDATION from March 2019 to January 2021. From November 2014 to December 2020, they were the Vice President of Non Edible Grocery at Asda. In this role, they were responsible for all non edible business categories such as Baby, Beauty, Toiletries, Household, Laundry, Petcare, Paper, and Kiosk as well as Asda’s Pharmacy, Optical, and Petrol operations. Massey began their career at Nestle in September 1998 as the Customer Team Director for Asda. In this role, they were responsible for all Nestle UK's business with Asda, covering Food, Beverage, and Confectionery categories. Prior to Nestle, Massey worked as a Graduate Trainee at [ConocoPhillips](/org/conocophillips) from September 1992 to September 1998.

Ronan joined the Board on 1 August 2022. He is a very strong commercial leader with enormous international experience in the digital telecoms industry and also has great financial expertise having held Chief Financial Officer roles previously. He has led businesses through technological and people transformations both as CEO of Verizon Consumer Group and CEO of Telefónica UK (O2).

Ronan is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Six Nations Rugby as well as EVP & Strategic Advisor of Verizon Communications Inc. Ronan is also a Trustee of the John King Brain Tumour Foundation.

Ronan is a member of the Audit and Nomination Committees.



Ronan Dunne

Stuart took over as Chief Executive Officer on 25 May 2022. Having joined M&S as Food Managing Director in April 2018 with nearly 30 years’ experience in the food, fashion and home retail sector, Stuart was appointed joint Chief Operating Officer in May last year. In his new CEO role, Stuart will continue to serve as a Director of Ocado Retail Ltd. Stuart is also the Executive Lead for HR. 

Prior to joining M&S, Stuart held senior operational and commercial roles in UK retailers Sainsbury’s, [Tesco](/org/tesco) and [ASDA](/org/asda). More recently, Stuart was CEO at Steinhoff UK and spent 10 years in Australia working at [Wesfarmers](/org/wesfarmers-ltd) as COO and CEO of Coles and Target respectively. In 2013, Stuart attended the Harvard AMP program.

Katie has held a number of roles at M&S including non-executive director, Chief Strategy and Transformation Director and most recently, joint Chief Operating Officer. On 25 May 2022, she re-joined the Board as Co-Chief Executive Officer. 

Katie brings extensive experience of retail transformation from a career in a variety of functions in leading UK retailers and consumer companies. Katie brings a deep understanding of digital, retail and operations, as well as experience in marketing, people, property, and as a non-executive director, to M&S. 

Katie was previously Executive Chair of SSE Energy Services, where she led the separation from SSE plc and subsequent sale to OVO. Until April 2018, Katie was Chief Executive, UK and Ireland of Dixons Carphone plc, where she led the transformation of Dixons' retail estate, e comm and the launch of the services business. She joined Dixons in 2008 and was appointed to its Board in 2012. Prior to this she worked with many well-known food retail and consumer companies including, Kwik Save, [PepsiCo](/org/pepsico), [Unilever](/org/unilever), [Dyson](/org/dyson), and Somerfield. 

Katie is a non-executive director of the England and Wales Cricket Board and joined Barratt Developments plc as a non-executive director in March 2021.

Archie Norman was appointed Chairman in September 2017. Archie has a breadth of retail experience with an extensive track record in business change and value creation.  He was instrumental in transforming a number of major British businesses including [Kingfisher](/org/kingfisher), Asda and Energis. He is Chairman of Lazard UK and has served as Chairman of ITV and Hobbycraft. He was the first and only FTSE 100 Chairman to be elected a Member of Parliament, where he served for eight years.

His current external roles include: Adviser to the Board of Wesfarmers Limited, Director of Target Pty Limited, Deputy Chairman of Coles Limited. In 2016 he was appointed by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy as its Lead Non-Executive Director.

Archie is Chairman of the Nomination Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Richard joined M&S on 7 July 2020 as Clothing & Home Managing Director.

Previously, Richard held the role of CEO of F&F Clothing at Tesco PLC.  

Richard’s career spans some of the UK’s top clothing brands and he has a proven track record of delivering growth through stylish, great value product.

Anna joined in June 2021 from [Tesco](/org/tesco) where she was Global Brand Director for Non-Food and led sustainability. Anna has a breadth of marketing experience from over 15 years in the retail fashion industry including over ten at John Lewis. She has changed perceptions of major brands including relaunching Jacques Vert, Hobbs and F&F. At F&F she overhauled the brand and launched the ‘I only popped in for’ campaign to drive reappraisal 

Anna Braithwaite

Brass joined M&S in April of 2021 from [Centrica](/org/centrica), where he was most recently customer contact director and was previously transformation director.

Prior to that, he was transformation change director at [Dixons Carphone](/org/dixons-carphone) for two years.

As retail operations director he is responsible for every aspect of M&S’s retail operations function, including customer and central operations, clothing and home operations, food and UK franchise operations and retail efficiency.

Ben Witmann joined in August 2021 following an 8-year stint at GAP, where he most recently served as Senior Director of Omni Channel Marketing & Visual Merchandising for Gap Europe.

Fiona joined the M&S Board on 25 May 2021. She is part of the Mars, Inc. Leadership Team, where she rose from the Graduate Trainee scheme to one of the top roles in the company. Her leadership roles have included President of Global Retail and Mars Chocolate UK and European Marketing Vice President. Fiona also has a strong track record in sustainability, health and wellbeing, particularly women’s entrepreneurship and human rights. In May 2021, she was awarded a CBE for services to women and the economy.

Fiona is a member of the Nomination Committee.
