Nathana Lurvey

Director, Maternal Child Health at MARTIN LUTHER KING JR LOS ANGELES HEALTHCARE CORPORATION

Dr. Lurvey is an obstetrician/gynecologist with more than 25 years of experience providing women’s healthcare services to the underserved in the southern California area. As chair of the Maternity Department at Martin Luther King Jr., Community Hospital (MLKCH), Dr. Lurvey provides oversight and development of clinical practice, and supervises all clinical practice services and continuous quality improvement among staff. Her expertise extends well beyond her practice of medicine to medical administration, mentoring, peer review, and professorships.

In addition to her work with MLKCH, she currently is an obstetrician on call at Eisner Pediatric and Family Clinic, serving community clinic patients at a community teaching hospital, supervising residents from LAC-USC, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and Harbor UCLA as well as LAC-USC medical students.

Dr. Lurvey supervises certified nurse midwives at the women’s health clinic of South Bay Family Healthcare in Inglewood, California, part of a multisite Federally Qualified Health Center and a crucial safety-net healthcare provider in southern California.

Prior to her work at Eisner and South Bay, Dr. Lurvey was part of the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Group, providing specialty obstetric services including colposcopy and LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) techniques, as well as supervising physician assistants and nurse practitioners for the department. Dr. Lurvey has also participated as a principal investigator on a number of phase III clinical trials for women’s health-related pharmaceutical products and medical devices.

Currently a clinical assistant professor at the Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Lurvey is board-certified physician with the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Fellow of The American College/Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG).

Dr. Lurvey graduated from the Brown University Program in Medicine and completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, San Diego Department of Reproductive Medicine.
