Sean L. Coleman

Assistant Attorney General & Principal Counsel at Maryland Environmental Service

Sean L. Coleman has provided legal representation for the Maryland Environmental Service and its Board of Directors since 1987. Mr. Coleman works directly with the Executive Team and the Board of Directors to provide advice and counsel on the myriad of legal issues which arise daily in an agency as complex and varied as MES. He supervises a staff of two other Assistant Attorneys Generals and one paralegal. The MES legal team handles nearly all of the agency’s advice, litigation, and transactional matters, as well as providing support for the MES environmental compliance program. Mr. Coleman also supervises outside bond counsel. He is a recipient of the Attorney General’s Exceptional Service Award and is a member of the bars of Maryland, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Mr. Coleman is an alumnus of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and of Towson University.
